Privacy Policy
Overview
The Climber's Journal ("the app", "we", "our") is designed with your privacy as a top priority. This privacy policy explains what information the app does — and does not — collect when you use it.
In short: we do not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your personal information.
Information We Collect
None.
The Climber's Journal does not collect any personal information, usage data, analytics, diagnostics, or identifiers from you or your device. We do not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address to use the app.
Information You Create
All data you enter into the app — including climbing sessions, training logs, goals, projects, notes, grades, and any other content — is stored locally on your device in a private database in your device.
- Your data never leaves your device.
- Your data is never transmitted to us, our servers, or any third party.
- Your data is never accessed by us under any circumstances.
- Your data is never sold, rented, or shared with anyone.
You retain full ownership and control of your data at all times.
Route Data
The app lets you browse and import climbing route libraries from OpenBeta.
Route Data: We do not collect or store the climbing routes you download. Route data is downloaded directly to your device and processed locally. We do not have visibility into which specific routes or areas you have downloaded.
Advertising
The Climber's Journal contains no advertising of any kind. We do not display ads, work with ad networks, or use any advertising identifiers.
Third-Party Services
To deliver route libraries for import, The Climber's Journal uses a proprietary API that hosts climbing route data sourced from OpenBeta. That route data is stored on AWS S3 and served through our API so you can browse areas and download routes into the app.
When you browse or download route libraries, the app communicates with our API to retrieve route data. We do not receive your personal information, account details, climbing logs, or device identifiers as part of these requests.
The Climber's Journal does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, crash reporting, or telemetry services. There are no SDKs in the app that collect or transmit data on our behalf.
Tracking
The Climber's Journal does not track you across apps or websites. The app does not access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) or any other tracking identifier.
Children's Privacy
Because the app collects no information from anyone, it collects no information from children. The Climber's Journal is safe for users of all ages.
Data Backup
Your local app data may be included in standard iOS device backups (iCloud Backup or encrypted local backups via Finder/iTunes) if you have those features enabled on your device. These backups are managed entirely by Apple and your device settings — not by us. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles device backups.
Data Deletion
Because all data lives on your device, you can delete all of your information at any time by:
- Deleting individual entries within the app, or
- Deleting the app from your device, which permanently removes the local database.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy ever changes, the updated version will be published in this file along with a new effective date. Because no data is collected, any future changes will only ever clarify existing behavior or describe new privacy-respecting features.
